The feeling I made was being alone in the dark. I think it's quite easy to guess why I took a black background: It represents the darkness surrounding the character.
The character is also my design in a darker form: [link]

It's sure is dark, background is somehow very nice, like underwater : D I like the shadows on the clothes.
